Ferro Silicon
Ferro silicon is an alloy of iron and silicon with between 15% and 90% silicon. It contains a high proportion of iron silicides. It also contains about 1 to 2% of calcium and aluminum. Of course, it can be used by end users (steel plants, foundries…) as inoculants, but it is also used in the process to create other ferro alloys (such as FeSiMg) and magnesium.
China is the largest producer and exporter of ferro silicon in the world.
